The relationship between Sexual satisfaction and Marital intimacy in patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
Purpose: This study is a descriptive correlational study to consider sexual satisfaction and marital intimacy in the patients with diabetes.

Method: The subjects consisted of 244 diabetics. Data were collected by interview using the translated Korean versions of the Derogatis Sexual Function Inventory(DSFI) and Marital Intimacy Questionnaire.

Result: The relationship between Sexual satisfaction and marital intimacy was significant. Sexual dysfunction was present in 153 patients(62.7%).

Conclusion: Sexual satisfaction is associated with marital intimacy. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of sexual dysfunction in diabetic couples. Future work should explore the impact of couples-focused interventions on sexual satisfaction and marital intimacy. And it is necessary to individual approach according to sexual life, which is usually hidden due to social and cultural limitations.
